The 6th Annual Lake Champlain Martin 16 Invitational Regatta August 2 - 3, 2008 Host: Northeast Disabled Athletic Association (NDAA) Venue: Malletts Bay Boat Club (MBBC) Malletts Bay, Colchester, VT NOTICE OF RACE 1. RULES The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Martin 16 Class Association, and the Regatta Organizing Authority (NDAA). 2. ELIGIBILITY Sailors with a physical disability of all ages and skill levels are invited to compete. Sailors are requested to indicate the nature of their disability on the registration form. In case of dispute, the Regatta Organizing Authority will be the sole arbiter of eligibility. All sailors are encouraged to inquire about participation, regardless of the severity of their disability or limited sailing experience. In the event that there are more boats than sailors with disabilities, the Regatta Authority may ask local abled-bodied sailors to fill out the fleet. Their results will not be tabulated in the final results. 3. ENTRY The entry fee is $45.00 (Canadian funds accepted at par), payable on race day, in cash or by check to NDAA. Registration forms are available for download at the NDAA website, http://www.disabledathletics.org/regatta, or by calling 802-862-NDAA (6322). Registration includes race fees, Saturday night dinner and breakfast each racing day. 4. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located on the MBBC deck. 5. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole. If a postponement is signaled ashore, the warning signal will be made not less than 45 minutes after AP is lowered. 6. SCHEDULE A mandatory competitors’ meeting will be held August 2, 2008 at 8:45 AM on the MBBC deck. The warning signal for the first race will be at 10:00 AM. Subsequent races will be held as soon as possible after the end of the previous race. No race will be started after 1600 hours on Sunday, August 3 7. RACING AREA The racing area will be within Malletts Bay. 8. COURSE and MARKS The course will be a windward-leeward as determined by the Race Committee. All marks will be orange tetrahedrons. All marks must be left to port. 9. STARTING AND FINISHING LINES The starting and finishing lines will lie between the Race Committee (RC) boat and a red pin buoy. The Sound Signal Starting System of Racing Rules, Appendix Q will be used. 10. TIME LIMIT The time limit for each race will be 60 minutes for the first boat to finish. Boats finishing more than 30 minutes after the first boat that sails the course finishes will be scored DNF. 11. PROTESTS Protests shall be delivered to the RC within 45 minutes after the Committee boat docks. The protest time limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the notice board. Hearings will be held as soon as possible after racing concludes each day. 12. SCORING The Low Point System of Appendix A of the Racing Rules will apply. If at least 5 races are completed, each boat’s worst score will be excluded from her series score. One race constitutes a series. 13. BOATS AND ASSISTIVE DEVICES Any competitor may supply, prepare and maintain their Martin 16 sloop and related equipment. Competitors are solely responsible for any costs or damages incurred while racing. Any competitor may supply and use any assistive device they deem necessary to provide a level of function equivalent to other competitors. Assistive devices must be declared and approved by the Organizing Authority prior to the start of the first race in which the assistive device is used. 14. CLASSES RACED All races will be sailed in Martin 16 sloops. The single-handed, non-spinnaker format will be raced. Companions may be used in accordance with the rules of the Martin 16 Class Association. (http://www.martin16class.org/rules) 15. TROPHIES Trophies will be awarded to the top finisher in the Gold and Silver fleets.
